Every wig wearer has been there. You have a beautiful, flowing synthetic wig that has turned on you. Now it’s embarrassing to wear because it’s tangled, dry, frizzy and likely to scare people away! But before you throw that unit out, have you tried to save it?
Synthetic wigs do have a short life span, much shorter than human hair wigs. But with proper maintenance your synthetic unit could last you up to a year! All you have to do is put in a little time, effort and tools. The most common mistake is using traditional shampoo on synthetic units. Don’t bother wasting your $30 shampoo on a synthetic unit that can absorb any of the nutrients! Instead, substitute the shampoo and conditioner with something that is created for synthetic fibers. I guarantee that you already have it in your home, laundry detergent and fabric softener.
This duo is specifically designed to clean and soften fabric. The process is easy and anybody can do it.
- To save any wig, the first step is to detangle the unit.
- Next you will need laundry detergent and fabric softener
- Soak the unit in warm water with laundry detergent.
- Gently wash. Rinse.
- Soak unit in warm water, this time with softener.
- Let soak up to an hour.
- Rinse unit.
- Lightly detangle and let dry.
- Begin to style!
While your unit is still damp, it’s the best time to flat iron any pieces that are frizzy and tangle a lot. The heat with the water steams away the frizz. Also, don’t forget to trim those ends to complete the look! Watch my videos for more details and see how I style my wigs!
